This is 1-litre of 91% Isopropyl Alcohol (also known as IPA or Isopropanol Alcohol). It is a colourless, hygroscopic liquid with a distinctive odour. It is a non-conductive, non-corrosive liquid that has a high evaporation rate. Stored in a translucent container, you will easily be able to monitor how much is left.
When Isopropyl Alcohol is used with alcohol inks and applied to synthetic paper or a non-porous surface, the reaction can create flow, blurred or bleach-like effects depending on the application technique (e.g. spray, drop, stamp). Isopropyl Alcohol is most commonly available in 70, 91, 99 or 100% variants. Any percentage that is less than 100% will contain purified water, which will reduce the evaporation rate.

What are alcohol inks?
Alcohol inks are translucent solvent-based dyes, designed to work with other solvents. The inks dry in 7-10secs depending on how they are applied. In addition to the base range, there are also ‘pearls’ – they contain mica powder and ‘alloys’ – they contain a leafing metallic. The medium allows artists to produce beautiful fluid art.
Isopropyl Alcohol is an essential part of the alcohol ink art process but outside the world of alcohol inks, it also has many other uses – so if you are wondering whether to purchase 5-litres, take a look at the list of ways IPA can be used around the home or in the garden!
